Tomales

On Sunday I packed up the KWMR outreach booth items and headed north to Tomales to load in for the Tomales Festival. When I got there 2 ½ hours before the official noon start time, most folks were either set up, or getting things set up. A helpful Coast Guard volunteer was assigned to help me with my unloading and setting up, and Dave, the “town roadie,” assisted as well.

Folks were already visiting booths and visiting with one another, food smells were wafting from the many offerings being prepared for the event. By noon things were really hopping. The “Blues Defenders” loaded in and at 1 PM the music started.

Kids played on swings, climbed on the jungle gym, and ran throughout the park. People danced and cruised throughout the town park. I was lucky enough to be sharing a booth with Donna Clavaud who was wearing her Tomales Emergency Response Network hat (one of many hats that Donna dons on behalf of the town of Tomales.)

I drank some of the best lemonade I have ever had and in doing so helped support the local Tomales Elementary School (I even got a free refill). I talked to some really nice listeners and gave away a lot of stickers and sold some merchandise.

That morning I had woken up early and went for a swim in Tomales Bay before eating a delicious breakfast then a nice drive up the stunning Bay Road along Tomales Bay. And I got to spend the whole day with people having fun and talking to Donna Clavaud about her life in Tomales.

KWMR is really excited to have been at the Tomales Festival. For years we listened to the frustrated Tomales residents asking for a reliable signal in their town. Last fall, with the financial support of Marin County, KWMR – specifically Richard Dillman, James Mohri, Ian McMurray and AJM Construction made it happen. Huge thanks to the Marin Emergency Radio Authority for permission to co-locate with them north of town. 

This time I was in Tomales to celebrate the 90.5 FM signal that was coming in strong. Lots of new listeners! Lots of good vibes. What a great job I have!
