”…And I Think It’s Going to Rain Today”

September 30, 2025

Broken windows and empty hallways

A pale dead moon in the sky streaked with gray

Human kindness is overflowing

And I think it’s going to rain today

I never knew until I looked up the lyrics of a song that was playing in my head as the sky gets more and more grey and the first storm of the season approaches the West Coast of California, that this song was written by Randy Newman. The Judy Collins version from her In “My Life” album is what plays in my head.

I have been thinking a lot about music lately and how important it is to listen while you relax, rock out, or dance around your living room with reckless abandon. When you get a chance, get out there and hear people doing what they love and are good at – the musicians in the world.

If you were fortunate enough to make it to Parachute Days this past Saturday, you know what I’m talking about. If you missed it, you have an opportunity to join Parachute Days and KWMR on Sunday, October 12th at Toby’s for more music and fun. KWMR is still seeking some volunteers for the October 12th event. Feel free to register HERE if you are interested.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is happening this weekend (October 3, 4, & 5) and the line up is amazing. Three full days of free live music in Golden Gate Park. Thank you Warren Hellman for recognizing the importance of music, and to the Hellman Foundation for keeping it going.

I am excited about our transition to fall. While I hope it doesn’t rain on Parachute Days on Sunday, October 12, I am happy for the rain. Rain reduces my plant’s reliance on me for hand watering, and helps lessen the danger of wildland fire.

I appreciate the power of music and I am grateful for the kindness of others. This is an awesome combination that Randy Newman so well articulated in his song.. Add a little rain on top of all that for good measure. Happy Fall to everyone!

Thank you for your support!
