Round Up: “Olio!”

“Olio!”
July 15, 2025
Today I am bringing you an olio of content. Thanks to all of you for your kind and helpful tick comments from last week. I do agree that Lyme disease is a serious situation that involves ticks. Our pals at the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito and Vector Control District report that around 3% of nearly 10,000 ticks tested over the past decade carried bacteria responsible for Lyme disease in our region. You can always save a tick that has bitten you and send it in to be tested. Encourage all ticks to feed off of lizards.

While I did not make it to the blow-out presentation of Dewey Livingston’s book launch at the Dance Palace on the 6th, we did head up to Tomales yesterday to Dewey’s most excellent presentation. If you missed both of those, you can still pick up a copy of the book at Point Reyes Books. Point Reyes Books is hosting a presentation by Dewey next Saturday, July 19, at the pop-up gallery next to Gallery Route One where the agricultural exhibit is being shown through the end of this month. I will be in conversation with Dewey after my volunteer stint at the gallery. The gallery is open to the public from 12pm – 4pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through the end of this month. Dewey’s presentation is at 4 pm. I highly recommend the book!
Our pals in Congress are expected to vote on the Rescission (HR 4) this week, possibly as early as Tuesday, July 15. The word on the street from Protect My Public Media is that they may vote on some procedures, including making any amendments on Wednesday, July 16th. There is still time to reach out to your elected officials. Even if you have done this already, you can do it again! I hope that everyone reaching out will encourage them to take out the public media cuts. I really really really hope so.
Perhaps you recall last year when one of KWMR’s contractors, Travis Bernard, proposed to his now wife Ava Chiao on the KWMR airwaves. We attended their wedding on Saturday. Congratulations to Travis and Ava.
Hope to see you Saturday at the gallery! 11101 Highway 1, Point Reyes Station.

P.S. I am very saddened to hear that the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and cabins on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park were destroyed in the Dragon Bravo Fire.
