Round Up: “Tis the season…”

Tis the season…
March 11th, 2025

It has begun. It is inevitable and I hope that I have not started too soon like I did last year (because then you have to do it again). I have the right gear to handle what comes my way. I was recently at a programmer gathering at KWMR, and when we were all heading out midday Sunday, several of us commented that we were heading home to do the same thing.

Yep, weeding.

And this year, as in previous years, there is a brand new addition to the family of weeds growing on our property. Ken spotted them last week, and upon further investigation they are prolific. What are they? Do you know? I am including a photo in case someone is familiar with this plant. And on the off chance that it is a valuable crop, I regret trying to eradicate them.

A mysterious weed growing in Amanda's garden.

The culprit. I have learned to live with the other weeds you see.   Photo: AE

There is really something zen about weeding. And it’s nice to be outside crawling around in the flower beds. There is also some satisfaction, at least for me, in filling the green bins.

It is a beautiful time of year here. The plum trees are in bloom. Daffodils are at attention. Ribes and the beginning of the lilac bushes are beginning to bud. Our funky peach tree is about to blossom, and the big pear tree is ready to flower. It’s a good time for bees. The starlings are also back after their migration south to warmer climes.

Right now I am wishing we had not sprung forward. I want my hour back. I’ll adjust, but really, I was getting used to it being light earlier….

And while weeds are prolific, the response to our public cry for potential board members netted a big ZERO response. Maybe it’s like the dip in consumer spending? Folks are just uncertain what is in our near future and are holding back on their board interest? Well, we are still interested in hearing from you, so here is the paragraph from last week, being recycled:

KWMR has a great Board of Directors. Our meetings are concise and cover all the bases. We laugh together and take care of business. A few of our stalwart members are terming out, and we would like to invite folks interested in joining the Board to reach out. You can fill out THIS FORM if you are interested, and we can talk. Or just leave me a message 415-663-8068, x 104. Even email is ok, but it might get buried. I recommend the form.

Well, I hope we come through this next gully washer in good form. Cover the wood pile and be prepared for some possible road flooding. Tides are favorable. I hope they don’t fire everyone at NOAA because that hits me hard. I am a weather nerd, and I like my data to be accurate!

But spring is beginning to spring here in West Marin. Enjoy!
